The convention state train wrecks

In convention
state news, both North Carolina and Florida continue hurtling toward national
humiliation, with state parties in each locale embroiled in messy legal action
that stands to spoil their moment in the sun.
In Charlotte,
where President Barack Obama will accept the Democratic nomination, the former
state party staffer who was allegedly sexually harassed filed
suit Thursday against the North Carolina Democratic Party and its chairman,
David Parker, claiming that Parker made false and defamatory statements about
him and violated the terms of a confidential settlement agreement at an April
19 press conference.
Meanwhile in
Florida, where Mitt Romney will accept the GOP nomination in Tampa,
the run-up to the late July trial of former state GOP chair Jim Greer is
proving equally messy. On Thursday,
two lawyers on Greer‘s defense team withdrew from the case one week after
reports surfaced that another Greer attorney had threatened to embarrass former
Gov. Charlie Crist “with questions about alleged homosexual conduct if Crist
refused to sign a statement changing an earlier affidavit.”
