TAMPA,
Florida — Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria will address at the Democratic
National Convention next month, according to a release — the first celebrity to
be selected to address Democratic delegates.
Longoria,
a co-chair of President Barack Obama's reelection effort, has taken on a
significant fundraising role for Obama, and has worked on Hispanic and women's
outreach for the campaign.
Particularly
in light of Rep. Todd Akin's comments on rape this
week, the Obama campaign has readied another push on women's rights and women's
health, and is planning on using the convention to highlight the differences
between Obama and Mitt Romney on those issues.
Among
the other names announced in the all-female release:
-Congresswoman Tammy
Baldwin of Wisconsin
-Former Assistant Secretary, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Tammy
Duckworth
-Sandra Fluke, Georgetown University Student
-Denise Juneau, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Montana
-Nancy Keenan, President of NARAL Pro-Choice America
-Caroline Kennedy
-Lilly Ledbetter
-U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski of Maryland, together with the women of the U.S.
Senate
-Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Action Fund
